Making a 10x10 work

The 10x10 is the most common footprint on any show floor, which means the booth next to you is the same size and the only variables are height, light and clarity. Most 10x10 booths fail for the same reason: too much copy at eye level and nothing readable from the aisle.

The design discipline is subtraction. One message that reads from twenty feet away, one product or demo that gives staff a reason to start a conversation, and storage so bags and boxes are not visible. Everything else is better handled by literature or a follow-up than by another line of text on the wall.

Height

Shows set a maximum height for inline booths and often restrict the rear portion. Confirm it in the exhibitor kit.

Back wall

Backlit or fabric, this is the surface doing the work. It is what people see from the aisle.

Furniture

Counters and shelving scaled to the footprint, with storage designed in rather than added later.

Cost

Lower space and shipping costs than a larger footprint, which is what makes the 10x10 the usual entry point.

Common questions

Is there a height limit for a 10x10 booth?

Yes. Shows publish a maximum height for inline booths in the exhibitor kit, and many restrict how tall the rear portion of the booth may be so you do not block your neighbors. We work to the specific show's rules rather than a general standard.

What actually fits in a 10x10?

A back wall, a counter, storage and usually one demo position. Adding a meeting area or a second demo station is normally where a 10x10 stops working and a larger footprint or an island starts to make sense.

Should we rent or buy a 10x10?

Rent for a first show, a pilot market or a rebrand in progress, because it avoids capital cost and storage. Buy once you are exhibiting often enough that repeat rental fees exceed what owning the hardware would have cost.

Does a 10x10 need its own lighting?

It benefits from it more than a larger booth does, because a small footprint has no depth to create its own visual interest. Lighting on the back wall is usually the single highest-return addition to a 10x10.
